Child‑Centred Play Therapy (CCPT)
Child‑Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) is a specialised, evidence‑informed psychotherapy for children aged 3–12 years, where play is understood as the child’s natural language of expression.
Delivered within our Story Corner space, sessions take place in a safe, predictable, and thoughtfully prepared environment designed to support emotional expression, regulation, and relational safety.
Through play, children are supported to:
-
Explore emotions within a safe and supportive space
-
Express and process emotions and experiences
-
Lead and discover strengths and challenges
-
Develop self‑expression and emotional understanding over time
CCPT is developmentally responsive, honouring each child’s pace, strengths, and needs. Research supports this approach for children experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties, including those related to trauma, medical complexity, ADHD, or autism.
Therapeutic Process and Duration
Child‑Centred Play Therapy is a relational, therapeutic process that relies on consistency, safety, and predictability. Therapy is typically delivered over a minimum of 20 weeks, and may extend to up to 32 weeks, depending on the child’s needs and progress. Periods of regression are a normal and expected part of the therapeutic process.
To support emotional safety and coherence, care is taken not to overload children or families with multiple concurrent therapeutic relationships during this phase. The focus remains on clarity, continuity, and a cohesive therapeutic experience.
Parents and carers are supported throughout therapy to develop a clear understanding of their child’s emotional world and needs. Discharge planning is introduced early, with supported transition to other services where indicated.
